Dr Ercan Ertekin received the BA (Physics) degree in 2007, the MSc degree in 2010, and the PhD degree in 2016, from Ankara University, Turkey. He focuses on applied superconductivity, including fault current limiters, transformers, magnets and also MgB2 bulk&wire superconductors. He was also awarded a PhD scholarship by “The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK)” for his PhD work on the Superconducting Fault Current Limiting design and testing in the scheme of priority areas (energy) for Turkey. He participated in 3 national projects on applied superconductivity.

From 2010 to 2021, he was a Scientific Project Specialist at the Superconductivity Research Center, where the superconductivity group constructed the first Superconductivity Research Center in Ankara, Turkey. The centre works on the MgB2 bulk&wire production, magnet design&production, and cryostat design&operation.

In 2020, he applied for a postdoctoral research grant and was granted by TUBITAK. The purpose of the research is to develop a new controller to help mitigate fluctuations in wind energy. The new controller facilitates the state-of-the-art superconductors, providing the functions of Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) and Superconducting Fault Current Limiter (SFCL). This novel technology also offers a cost-effective solution to improve vulnerable power grids affected by renewable energy sources (RES) intermittence in developing countries. He is in the Applied Superconductivity Group at the University of Strathclyde as an academic visitor between 18th November 2021-18th November 2022.
